Old pics! WI stand at the Knitting and Stitching Show

Thursday, 14 April 2011

Just a quickie today to share a couple of pics from last year!

The West Yorkshire Federation of Women's Institutes had a stand at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate last November, and myself and some fellow Buns & Roses members went along to help out.

I was manning the demonstration table for a few hours, making a few bits and chatting to lots of lovely people - men and women, members and non-members (but hopefully future members!).

Here I am stitchign away! I was doing some patchwork pin cushions, decorated eggs as Christmas ornaments and Suffolk puffs.

This is me and Hayley together.

It was such a lovely few hours and I got to chat to a lot of amazing people. Everyone was so enthusiastic and keen to learn about Tthe WI and what we were doing, both on the stand and in the wider context.

I know I say it a lot (especially if you have me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter) but The WI is properly brilliant. Since joining 18 months ago I have learnt a lot of new skills, made many new friends and had a LOT of laughs.

I am very glad to say I have been able to get involved with The WI on many levels and plan to do so much more over the years.

A weekend in Harrogate

Monday, 6 December 2010

Well, finally time for a show and tell on my weekend in Harrogate with mum.
We met up on the train on Saturday morning and bumped into two of my lovely WI friends, Natalie and Sam, then headed off for some shopping. We got lots of great bargains. Mum bought me some pyjamas, which I just love, and we got some nice bits from a church fair we stumbled across.
After walking around for a few hours in the snow we were ready for a rest and I had booked us in for afternoon tea at the Imperial Suite at Bettys.

It was really lovely. The room is stunning and there was a pianist and the staff were lovely. We had some sandwiches, scones, cakes and lots of tea! Just what we needed after all that shopping!
We checked into the hotel (I had a nap) then headed out for a meal at Orchid restaurant and some drinks at Revolution and Rehab. Here we are with all the shots and cocktails!

We had a really good sleep that night! Sunday morning we were off to the Knitting and Stitching Show for a bit of shopping and some workshops. I'd already been on Friday to help on the WI stand and learn new things.
Here are the creations and purchases ...

A little gift bag I made on canvas using random stitches.

Fabric I bought to finish off mum's Christmas present.

Button dolly!

Buttons to decorate an apron I made, which needs finishing off so pics another time!

A little beadwork Christmas tree.

A fabric panel using Angelica fibres.

A piece of Japanese folded patchwork. I'm in the process of making more of these to create a bag.

Some Oriental fabrics.

Kits for Oriental bags and brooches.

It was a very wonderful weekend but rather tiring! We'll be back next year!

Knitting and Stitching Show 2010

Monday, 14 June 2010

Wooo have just booked tickets for mum and I to go to the Knitting and Stitching Show 2010 in Harrogate. We're off on Sunday, November 28 and are booked on to four workshops - making a vintage-style apron, button dolls, Japanese folded patchwork and Angelina fibres. Seems so far away but am sure it will come round quickly. Last year's show was fantastic so am really excited. Will be a nice weekend with my mum as well - we're going to head to Harrogate on Saturday and get a hotel overnight. Proper treat for us!
Anyways, I strongly suggest you go take a look at the website. Not only is it a great day out but you can bag some real bargains and the workshops are great for learning lots of new things. There are shows in London and Dublin as well.
